Apple iCloud and the potential for amazing things
Last Monday Apple released an interesting new product, iCloud. Now most people will groan at Apple’s unwavering love for everything “i-related”, but the idea of what iCloud is, is incredibly interesting. Initially thought to just be “iTunes in the cloud”, but it turns out to be much, much more. Overall iCloud is the replacement for MobileMe, as that was the replacement for .Mac, but goes a few steps further. Yes iCloud will give you email, calendar, contact syncing that MobileMe currently gives you, but deeply integrates with iOS to deliver something MobileMe could never do. With iOS 5, Apple decided to completely get rid of the need for a PC/Mac and let you sync everything from the cloud wirelessly or even from your computer, but wirelessly. WiFi syncing isn’t new at all, but it’s a welcomed feature that’s been missing since iOS was first brought to fruition. WiFi sync is nice, but what if you don’t have a PC/Mac? In comes iCloud.

So I wrote this post about two years ago, but since I couldn
‘t import my old database, I’m just going to copy and paste it here. Since this was written two years ago, plenty of things have changed. I still feel strongly against piracy, but I’ve also edited out quite a bit of swearing I had in my old post. Please note that there might be a good amount of negativity, but I tried to tone it down a bit, so I do apologize for that. A lot of this post still matters, so I’m going to paste it below:
Apple iPad Review
This review has been delayed quite a bit, as both work, and me playing with my iPad, has taken up my time. But is this new Apple tablet re
ally all it’s cracked up to be? I’m sure you’ve all read the reviews by the big guys, and even Engadget and Gizmodo’s review, but what about a regular guy, with no incentive to push out a review? While many people think that the iPad is nothing more than a glorified iPod/iPhone, are simply wrong. You’ve read my desire to buy one, now you get to read my amazingly real review.
Why I’m excited about the iPad
As many of you know, the Apple iPad is going to be released on April 3rd (my birthday) and I’m incredibly
excited about it. The thing is incredibly thin, sexy, and just looks really nice. If the iPad meets the bar set by Apple, this is definitely going to be the best device they’ve created. Though things weren’t exactly all great for me and the iPad, I initially hated it! So what made me change my mind from hating the iPad to being really excited about it? Plenty of things to be honest. But first I’d like to go over the details as to why I hated the iPad from the get go.
When the Atom processor, just doesn’t cut it.
I currently have a Dell Mini 9 netbook which has an Intel Atom N270 processor running at 1.6Ghz on a 533Mhz FSB.
Since the “netbook” is supposed to be a mini laptop, you’d expect the processor to handle what you’re trying to do, right? Not exactly. We live in an age of Flash video, 720p/1080p everything, really complex websites and everything being in the “cloud”. Since netbooks are meant to be internet only laptops, they incredibly fail at this point and I’ll tell you why.
